Blepharoplasty or surgery of the eyelids

Blepharoplasty SurgeryBlepharoplasty is a type of medical treatment that can be stated as both functional and cosmetic surgical procedure and which is intended to reshape both the upper and lower eyelids. In general, Blepharoplasty involves repositioning and the removal of excess tissue in the eyelids as well as it helps in the reinforcement of the surrounding tendons and muscles near the eyelids. Moreover, it also increases the clarity of the vision.

Due to the presence of advanced amount of skin in the upper eyelids, the skin at that portion may hang over the eyelashes thus resulting in the loss of peripheral vision. Due to this particular disease, the upper and the outer pats of the visual field gets commonly affected. These may result in difficulties while performing many activities such as reading and driving. In many circumstances, a type of Blepharoplasty known as upper lid Blepharoplasty is performed to gradually improve the peripheral vision. For those patients who have less severe amount of the excess skin, another similar cosmetic procedure can be performed for the proper treatments. Lower eyelid Blepharoplasty is a type of procedure which is also done for cosmetic reasons to reduce the wrinkling of the skin and improving the puffy lower bags of the eyelid.

Blepharoplasty is usually performed through incisions made externally below the lashes of lower eyelids, along the skin line of eyelids, creases of the upper eyelids or even from the inner surface of the lower eyelids. After the treatment of Blepharoplasty, there may be initial swelling and bruising which may take nearly two to three weeks to resolve. After several months from the operation, the final results become stable ensuring that the person can view properly. The duration of the operation may take one to three hours for successful completion depending upon the scope of the entire procedure.

Other factors that influence the final functional and cosmetic outcomes of Blepharoplasty include the skin quality of the patient, anatomy of the eyelids and the adjacent soft and bony tissues of the eyelids. Blepharoplasty can cause many types of complications after surgery only if some important factors are not taken into consideration. These factors include pre existing dry eyes, laxity of the lower lid margin and the prominence of the eye compared to the malar complex. Complications may involve in disrupting the natural tear film or exacerbating it and predisposing the lower lid malposition.

Asian Blepharoplasty is a typical medical term for upper Blepharoplasty conducted on a person who is East Asian. This type of Blepharoplasty is one of the most popular forms of cosmetic surgery among people having origin of east and south East Asia. This is because of the fact that due to some peculiar anatomic differences between the occidental and Asian eyelid, nearly half of the total population are born without having a supratarsal eyelid crease often referred to as single lidded. This type of Blepharoplasty can be used to create a crease above the eye artificially.
